Central government employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for the 8th Pay Commission, hoping for a major boost in their salary and pension. As per the latest reports, the government may finally issue an official notification regarding the Eighth Pay Commission in November 2025. If this happens, the process of setting up the commission will move forward rapidly.

Government’s Stand on the 8th Pay Commission

It is important to note that the formation of the 8th Pay Commission was approved in January 2025, but the official notification has not been released yet. Recently, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed the Rajya Sabha that the notification is still pending and that a final decision has not been taken. However, he confirmed that necessary preparations are already underway.

Will the Notification Be Issued in November?

Earlier reports suggested that the central government might issue the notification by Diwali. However, fresh media updates indicate that the notification may be issued in November. Once the notification is released, the chairman and members of the commission will be appointed to begin the review process.

Experts believe that the government cannot delay the formation of the new commission for long, as the 7th Pay Commission’s term ends on December 31st. After that, the government will be required to take necessary steps to avoid any gaps in salary and pension revisions.

Why the 8th Pay Commission Matters

Every 10 years, the central government revises the salaries and pensions of its employees through a new Pay Commission. The 7th Pay Commission was implemented earlier, and now employees are expecting the 8th Pay Commission to bring a substantial increase in basic pay, allowances, and pensions.

Possible Changes and Allowance Updates

Reports suggest that the 8th Pay Commission may recommend removing or merging some existing allowances to simplify the salary structure. These may include:

  • Travel Allowance (TA)
  • Special Duty Allowance
  • Minor Regional Allowance
  • Certain Departmental Allowances (like Typing or Clerical Allowance)

The main objective of the new commission is to make the salary and pension system simpler and more transparent, ensuring fair benefits for all central government employees and pensioners.
