Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is preparing to introduce a redesigned website aimed at making train ticket booking faster and more convenient for passengers. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the upgraded IRCTC website is expected to go live by July 15, following repeated complaints from users regarding technical issues during ticket reservations.
Why Is IRCTC Bringing a New Website?
The decision comes after passengers, particularly students, raised concerns about difficulties faced while booking railway tickets online. Many users reported problems with CAPTCHA verification and website performance, which often created delays during the booking process.
During a recent event in Rajasthan, students directly shared their concerns with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. They highlighted how CAPTCHA-related issues and technical glitches were affecting their ability to secure tickets smoothly. Taking note of these complaints, the minister asked officials to speed up the development process and confirmed that a new version of the IRCTC website would be launched within a month.
What Changes Can Passengers Expect?
The upcoming IRCTC platform is expected to offer a more seamless and user-friendly experience. According to officials, the upgraded system will focus on improving performance and reducing booking-related frustrations.
Some of the expected improvements include:
- Faster train ticket booking process
- Better server capacity during peak hours
- Simplified login and verification system
- Reduced technical errors and website downtime
- Improved user interface for easier navigation
- Smoother experience for mobile and desktop users
The changes are expected to benefit millions of railway passengers who rely on IRCTC every day for ticket reservations.
Focus on Technology and Innovation
Apart from announcing the new IRCTC website, the Railway Minister also shared plans related to advanced technology and education. During his visit, he announced the establishment of upgraded Quantum Computing and Quantum Communication laboratories at Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur.
These facilities will be developed under a project supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and are expected to contribute to research in emerging technology sectors.
Quantum Technology Could Drive the Next Innovation Wave
Addressing students and faculty members, Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that while artificial intelligence is currently transforming industries worldwide, the next major technological shift is likely to be led by quantum technology.
He noted that research in quantum communication and quantum key distribution will play an important role in strengthening India’s technological capabilities and supporting future security applications.
Growing Demand for Semiconductor Professionals
The minister also highlighted opportunities in India’s semiconductor sector. According to industry estimates, the country may require more than 10 lakh semiconductor design professionals in the coming years.
He added that global technology companies such as NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Arm Holdings, and Advanced Micro Devices are already carrying out advanced semiconductor chip design work in India, highlighting the country’s growing role in the global technology ecosystem.
